Report: Min: Russia not to impose currency exchange tax
MOSCOW, Dec 29 (PRIME) – The Russian government has no plans to introduce any additional taxes on currency exchange, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told channel Rossiya 24 in an interview broadcast Tuesday.
Last week, the central bank ordered that any person who wants to exchange currencies with a Russian bank or an exchange office show not only the passport, but fills out a form, indicating name, surname, passport details, home address, and a personal tax reference number, as well as other information that can be requested by the central bank.
“This is by no means a measure, which -- I read press as well as you -- can be used later to introduce taxes on currency exchange transactions. I want to tell you straightaway that this is not so. The government has no plans to introduce additional taxes, including on currency exchange operations, no,” Siluanov said.
He said that the central bank’s measure is intended to curb legalization of unlawful income.
